Prosperity: Five Tips to Attract Abundance in Life

Once, a British leader named Benjamin Disraeli said, “Working hard leads to good luck.” Looking back on my life and the lives of people I’ve helped, I know this is true.

If you want good things to happen, you have to be ready for them. As someone who helps others with their lives and businesses, I want to show you that you don’t have to struggle to find success and happiness.

In this article, I’ll share five tips to help you bring more good things into your life, both at work and in your personal life.

Tip 1: Get Curious

Rarely do opportunities happen to us by accident, unless you are famous and well-connected. Most of us need to seek out new opportunities. You may be thinking, “okay, where do I go?” Websites, such as Google Trends, can help you discover new ideas that may improve your social status. Also, create conversations via your social media channels, podcast, or blog.

Also, if you haven’t done so already, join the Help a Reporter Out (HARO) community. HARO is a platform that connects journalists with sources. I got on live television via HARO.

Consider connecting with local opportunities as well. I received free advertising via Capital One Bank because I paid attention to their business marketing email messages.

Word of caution: Stay eager, yet humble

While you are looking for opportunities to market yourself, please stay humble. If someone is giving you an opportunity to grow your audience, expand your reach, and build brand awareness, you cannot and should not have a chip on your shoulder.

Associating with an unknown entity (meaning you) means uncertainty and risk. Showing appreciation will be seen as likable, making it easier for new people to like and eventually trust you.

Tip 2. Stay positive

As humans, we are wired to think negatively. In fact, it takes us up to 20 seconds to think positively, while we can think negative thoughts within one-tenth of a second. So, imagine if your mind is thinking negatively, suspicious, and in some cases, paranoid thoughts? That doesn’t bode well for being open to new opportunities or being resilient amidst challenging circumstances.

Prosperity doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Studies have shown that people who are positive not only achieve greater success, but they also improve outcomes and life satisfaction across a spectrum of conditions—including traumatic brain injury, immune-system related disorders, and depression.

So, please understand the power of the unconscious mind. It is designed to help bring you more of what you fix your attention on. If you focus on the negative, you get more negative. And the converse is true.

And you may be thinking, “Well, how do I stay positive, Denise?” Well, here’s some practical advice:

Never make an assumptions. Because we you do, you are inevitably make and "ass" out of you and me.

Don’t rush to conclusions.

I am always amazed to see how seemingly successful people can be quick to rush to make assumptions. This is apparent when I interview guests on my podcast. To make sure I’m comfortable with podcast guests, I ensure they are familiar with me and/or my podcast to avoid awkwardness in the interview. Most of my prospective guests understand this.

However, every once in a while, I meet a “prima donna” or “don” who believes they are too important to waste their time getting to know their interviewer.

One recent prospective guest told me I was “wasting her time” with this requirement. I thought, “Good riddance” as I replied, “Wishing you the best.”

Never make assumptions, because when you do, you are inevitably make and “ass” out of you and me.

Don’t take temporary setbacks as permanent failure.

It’s important to remember that temporary setbacks are just that – temporary. They do not define us or our abilities, and it’s important to not let our setbacks become permanent failures.

It’s important to maintain a positive outlook and keep pushing forward, even in the face of challenges.

When we encounter obstacles, it can be easy to feel discouraged, but it’s important to keep in mind that setbacks are often necessary stepping stones to success.

By persevering through the tough times and learning from our mistakes, we can emerge stronger and more resilient.

Remember that every successful person has faced failure at some point, and what sets them apart is their ability to keep going despite the setbacks. So keep your head up, stay focused on your goals, and know that temporary setbacks are just part of the journey to success.

Avoid haters or negative people

Do you know there are people who enjoy having a good fight? Yes, there are! And they can fight with you or others for hours on end. They learned how to be combative from their painful childhood experiences, so it’s no big deal for them to troll you online or speak nastily to your face.

Meanwhile, you’ve just lost time, energy, and your peace of mind.

All for what? To give someone some twisted form of entertainment?

Meanwhile, while you may enjoy a surge of adrenaline to make you feel braver and more confident, there is a dark side. Elevated levels of adrenaline, cortisol, and other stress hormones decreases the quality of your immune system, making you more prone to becoming sick frequently and for longer periods of time.

I know it’s tempting to want to “clap back”, especially if you like telling people how “dumb” they are. However, prosperity and bitterness cannot co-exist.

When someone tries to hook you into an argument that is pointless (other than stroking your ego), let it go.

Let it go, love. Trying to prove someone right isn’t worth damaging your serenity and peace.

Tip 3. Own the direction of your life

One of my favorite comedians is Steve Harvey. Steve is very transparent about his past struggles, which include his divorces, homelessness, and tax problems. Despite his mistakes, Steve decided that he wanted to improve how he communicated first with himself, then with others. And it started by letting himself grow, not wither from his setbacks.

Let’s look at seeing setbacks as setups for prosperity from a different angle.

Setbacks are setups

Mediterranean climates are known for forests during the summer. The hot air and windy climates make it ripe for brush fires to develop. And while people don’t want devastation to their homes or property, the area actually can thrive after a fire. It allows nutrients to be released from the petrified wood and adds more nutrients into the soil. The soil is more rich and vibrant for plants and new wildlife to inhabit a region. Destruction and seeming setbacks can help you refresh and renew your spirit if you allow it.

All that glitters ain’t gold

Caution: Don’t be successful as a form of proving your worth and identity to loved ones.

I had a client who built a multi-million dollar business, yes, MILLION, based on his father’s approval. Every night, he snorted cocaine and watched porn with all his newfound wealth. His dad didn’t have a problem with it because “Jimmy” (not real name) was a financial success. Yet, it took years for my client to face his internal demons. You see, Jimmy lived an inauthentic life based on fears, distorted messages on what success and prosperity looks like, amongst other issues.

I see the love of fame, power and status on social media. It borders idolatry.

Love – What glitters isn’t all gold. Be careful about the things you cherish.

Carefully evaluate the things you think you need. It all may be popular and exciting to the world, yet bankrupting to your soul.

Tip 4. Visualize Success

Visualizing success is an important aspect of fulfilling your dreams and obtaining prosperity. It not only encompasses materialistic success but also includes personal success in various aspects of our lives, such as relationships with our children, communities, and causes we care about.

To achieve success, it’s vital to have a clear picture of what you want and where you want to be in the next few years. It’s also important to understand why it’s significant and how you can become the person you need to be to make it possible.

Visualization Poster

I tell clients to go to the grocery store and buy a bunch of magazines and a poster. They should clip and glue all the items that resemble the things or ideas that matter most to them onto the poster. Not only is it a fun activity that activates their inner child, but it also helps the subconscious mind reveal things about themselves they didn’t know.

Consider making a visualization poster as well, and don’t judge yourself throughout the creation process. It’s about allowing yourself to be clear about what matters to you, not your mom, dad, cousin Jimmy, or anyone else you hold in high esteem.

Real prosperity requires abandoning negative thoughts from your life script that hinder your progress. Stop thinking about what you cannot do and focus on what you can do. By doing so, you create a compelling vision for yourself that strengthens your motivation and clarity of purpose toward your goals.

Each setback sets you up for new and positive experiences.

5. Accept discomfort as a part of the growth process

The fact of the matter is that growth is needed and necessary if you want to become a prosperous person. As I reflect on the things I have experienced in the last five years, I needed to grow up and stop thinking that things have to occur in a certain way and order.

For many years, I recorded hundreds of episodes for my podcast, but it seemed like only my husband and I were listening. Even my early clients didn’t know about my podcast. They were only captivated when they heard me speak at business events.

It took me years to learn and improve my communication skills, research topics that others wanted to hear about, and learn how to market and promote myself. All of these experiences were humbling.

Questions for you:

  • Do you have tasks that you are avoiding and need to be done?
  • How much time, money or opportunities are you losing by procrastinating?
  • Why is it necessary for you to begin now?

Use the anti-procrastination guide, as shown in the image below. For each task, write down its importance and what you expect to gain from each activity.

A table with three different types of tasks.

Final thoughts about prosperity

Success is not impossible. It requires you to be honest, humble, curious, and have a positive attitude. Each setback sets you up for new and positive experiences. Yes, prosperity is within your reach because the world is eager and ready to give new opportunities to curious and motivated individuals.

The only question is, “Are you ready for more abundance and prosperity?”
